HKTDC World Boutique, Hong Kong is a unique event, bringing together some extraordinary design talent and presenting collections by important names in the fashion world. Leading international trend forecasters unveil the direction of fashion for coming seasons at this show.

The next edition of World Boutique, Hong Kong will be held from 17 to 20 January, 2011, at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

This fair functions as a focus for the fashion world in many ways. On a commercial level it creates a platform for trading at the high-end of the fashion industry, with many branded products on offer. The most recent edition, in 2010, featured over 250 exhibitors from 19 countries & regions. This concentration of brands in turn creates rich opportunities for industry players to enter licensing or franchising arrangements.

On the level of pure fashion, World Boutique, Hong Kong is one of the most exciting shows in Asia, with runway shows, trend seminars and a stunning display of exhibits. All the attention drawn by this stylish event makes it an excellent choice for companies and fashion designers to promote brand recognition, launch new brands and generally extend market reach.

The star-studded grand show, Hong Kong Fashion Extravaganza, is the highlight of the fair. Featuring international designers who are at the very top of their game, the show on 17 January is expected to attract the cream of Asia's fashion industry and high society.

Many designers and brands take the opportunity to present their own house shows to international buyers and insiders of the fashion industry. In 2011 these will include BUTONI, featuring the latest collection of the Hong Kong based designer Ika; Knitwear Innovation and Design Society, presenting latest knit creations; Modessa, a women’s wear company with an established reputation; and Moiselle, a highly successful Hong Kong women’s wear label.

The Brand Collections Show in 2011 will present a diverse ensemble of designers and brands from various places including the Chinese mainland, Egypt, Japan and Russia. Among the names which will attract attention are renowned mainland brand Qinyi and "toykoeye" project from Japan.

Many other fashion parades will also be staged throughout the four days of fair. The Hong Kong Fur Federation will present new fur designs, while the Hong Kong Design Institute, which has been involved in a research project on Miao culture in collaboration with experts from Sichuan province of the Chinese mainland, will show designs merging traditional methods and materials with modern designs and technologies. The Hong Kong Footwear Federation will also take advantage of this occasion to showcase the works from its Shoe Fountain Project, which aims at promoting stronger connections between footwear designers and manufacturers by letting young designers experience the product development process in its entirety. The Taiwan Textile Federation will also present the work of some fashion design talents from Taiwan.

Each year the Hong Kong fashion industry looks forward to the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers' Contest (YDC), a long-established initiative which gives upcoming designers a chance to shine. Many Hong Kong fashion luminaries have been given their first chance through this contest.

The 2011 YDC will welcome Ms Martine Sitbon, Creative Director, Rue du Mail, as VIP judge and the contest will culminate in a show and prize presentation on 18 January. There will be category winners for Casual & Jeans-wear, Contemporary Day-wear and Party & Evening-wear. The Overall Winner will receive a cash prize and a month's internship at Rue du Mail, Paris. Winning designs will be on display at Hall 1C Concourse during the fair period. Adding even more excitement to this very special Hong Kong fashion industry occasion, four YDC past winners - Billy Leung, Kevin Ng, Michael Lau and Mountain Yam - will stage a fashion parade with the theme Phantom Play, showcasing their creative designs.

A programme of seminars will cover trend forecasting by international firms such as Fashion Snoops and Stylesight, as well as branding and garment production by two speakers from an international fashion brand from Paris.

World Boutique, Hong Kong is staged concurrently with the HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter, a synergy which generates a high buyer attendance as Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter is the largest fair of its kind in Asia, gathering suppliers of garments, accessories and fashion-related products from around the world. About 1,700 exhibitors from around 20 countries and regions are expected to participate in Hong Kong Fashion Week in January 2011.
