2011 Golden Globe Awards: Best Dressed

Oh, what a night! Glammed-up celebs made for a dazzling red carpet, showing up in one-shoulder gowns, sexy strapless numbers, minimalist Calvin Klein, and lots of nude. Claire Danes and Emma Stone wowed in sherbet-colored Calvin gowns; Eva Longoria brought sexy back in a sophisticated black Zac Posen; Olivia Wilde fulfilled a sparkling fantasy in her chocolate-hued Marchesa number; and Anne Hathaway stunned in a slim sequin Armani gown. Now it's time for you to tell us: who was best dressed at the Golden Globes?

Top 5 makeup tips for 2011

Fall is Lucky’s favourite season. Everyone puts a little more effort into their look when the leaves turn colour! Here are her 5 favorite makeup trends for Fall 2011:

The Two-Toned Smoky Eye

Seen here at Diane Von Furstenberg, a twist on the classic dark smoky eye has a refreshing dash of silver and glitter on the inner eyes. Pair it with a nude lip.
Try: Tval’s ‘Black Ice’ eyeshadow with MAC ‘3-D Silver’ glitter or Lise Watier ‘Opale’ Glitter.2

Light and Shade

Seen here at Thakoon, Fall’s take on the natural makeup trend, pumped up with some contour and highlight.
Try: Cover FX ‘Natural FX’ foundation, then MAC blush in ‘Blunt’ or ‘Buff’ to contour & ‘Trace Gold’ or ‘Honour’ to highlight, or Cover FX ‘The Big Cover Up Kit’

Plum Dandy

Fashionista’s love affair with plum is going strong. Whether in a smoky eye or taking centre stage with a bold lip (as seen here at Proenza Schouler), this is not a look for the timid. Afraid of a dark lip? Use your lipstick with a brush to create more of a sheer stain.
Try: MAC lipstick in ‘Media’ or ‘Cyber’, Chanel lipstick in ‘Rouge Noir’.

The Red Lip

Paired here with plum smoky eyes for a more dramatic effect, the red lip makes any outfit feel a little more dressed up.
Try: MAC ‘Viva Glam’ lipstick, Kat Von D ‘Hellbent’ lipstick

undefinedBond Girl Eyeliner

Ah, yes. My favorite eyeliner is back with a 60’s vibe… maybe a touch of Amy Winehouse? Whatever the case, pairing a heavy cat-eye liner with a nude lip will make you feel like a femme fatale.
Try: Cargo Liquid Liner or MAC ‘Blacktrack’ Fluidline

2011, Sneak Peak Beauty

As we begin a new decade, we’re very excited to see what’s next in the world of fashion and beauty. So we asked our resident makeup artist Lucky to give us the scoop on what to expect this year. From the bright eyes to cheeky focal points, we can’t wait to see what will unfold in 2011!

Bright, Matte Lips

The key to this look is to tone down the rest of the face… keep the eyes simple with just mascara and the skin glowy.  Then pull all the focus to the lips!  Choose a hot matte (no shine)  colour in a bright coral or vivid pink!  Don’t layer gloss on top or the point of the trend is missed. If the idea of a bright lip is scary to you, ease yourself into it by applying the matte lipstick with a lip brush to create a more sheer, stained look.
Try: Revlon ‘Strawberry Suede’ Matte Lipstick or MAC lipstick in ‘Neon Orange’, ‘Full Fuchsia’ or ‘Pink Nouveau’.  I also love the OCC Lip Tars in ‘Harlot’ and ‘Demure’.

Cheeky

This trend is all about the cheeks!!  Choose a bright pink for the apples of your cheeks or a tawny, golden bronze to sculpt your cheekbones with.  Again, remember to choose your focal point… so keep the rest of the face neutral with nude eyeshadows and lips.
Try: NARS blush in ‘Desire’ or ‘Angelika’, MAC blush in ‘Dolly Mix’, or Rimmel blush in ‘Pink Rose’.  For the bronzed look try Cargo Bronzer in ‘Medium’ or ‘Dark’ (depending on your skin tone) or Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Tropics.

Neon Eyeshadow

Bright eyeshadows were all over the runways for 2011!  This one is easy to execute as it’s just one bright pop of colour over the whole eyelid.  Make it a sheer wash of colour or really pack it on for a bright pop!  As with the other trends, keep your focal point the eyes and the rest of the face more neutral.  A nude, pinky gloss looks great with this look! If the idea of neon eyes is too intimidating, use an angle brush to create a bright eyeliner or try a bright, colourful mascara!
Try: Makeup For Ever, NARS, Covergirl, and MAC all have fantastic bright/neon shades. Pick one that best suits your personality and knock ‘em dead!
