Star Secrets Crystals collection

Celebrate the superstar within you with new makeup products by L’Oréal Paris

undefined
This season, L’Oréal Paris has harnessed the expert advice of its top makeup artists to create its first tailor-made collection to bring out the perfect beauty in every woman.

Each product in the Star Secrets Crystals collection is presented in a case decorated with golden stars to celebrate the superstar within each of us.

Two of the collections have been specially designed to enhance Arab beauty, with the different products and colours combining together to flatter the darker eyes, darker hair and fair matt skin of Arab beauties like Rachida Brakni and Afef Jnifen – the icons and L’Oreal Paris ambassadresses who have served as the inspiration for the two colour palettes.

The key focus is on the eyes, with Colour Appeal Trio Star Secret Pro Crystals. Two scintillating trios have been developed in specific shades to create sublime effects with brown and black eyes. The shades contain mother-of-pearl and glitter, with a transparent base to add extra sparkle. Superliner Crystals with added glitter are also available to further enlarge and intensify Arab eye colours.

For the lips there are Color Riche Star Secrets in two colours. Formulated to include Vitamin E and Omega 3, the lipsticks simultaneously moisturise, smooth and soften with all the richness of a beauty treatment.

The master creator behind these palettes is L’Oréal Paris’ world famous makeup artist, James Kaliardos.

L’Oréal Star Secrets Crystals are available at Debenhams, Faces, Lifestyle, Boots and other selected outlets with a retail price of:

Color Appeal Trio Star Secrets – Dh73
Superliner Crystals – Dh66

L’Oreal Paris Extra-Volume Collagene Mascara

Instant volume for both inside and outside of lashes

undefined
Containing hydra-collagene, Extra Volume Collagene by L’Oreal Paris is the first mass market mascara to bring collagene technology to your eyelashes.

Collagene has a long history of use in cosmetic products. Valued for its ability to enhance youthful beauty, collagen has long been used to add volume to lips and to replenish the skin by plumping out wrinkles and facial lines.

Now, L’Oreal Paris has used its skincare expertise in collagen and harnessed its volumising properties to create a mascara that gives instant volume to both the inside and outside of lashes.

Extra-Volume Collagene plumps up lashes on the inside through its Hydra-Collagene Complex. Observed under an optic microscope, the diameter of a lash soaked for 30 seconds in this Hydra-Collagene Complex swells, demonstrating that the lash is instantly thickened.

Volume on the outside is generated through a patented association of innovative structuring and smoothing waxes that allow for sublime, imposing lashes right to the very tip. On top of this, these waxes also give a smooth and even application.

The patented, “Extra-Volume” brush is twice the size of classic mascara brushes.

Actress Eva Longorian said after using Extra-Volume Collagene her lashes felt ‘thicker and sexier.’

Extra-Volume Collagene Mascara is available in three colours: black, brown and blue, with the retail price of Dh80

Ophthalmologists tested and allergy tested, Extra-Volume Collagene Mascara is suitable for use on sensitive eyes and by contact lens wearers.

Maybelline NY expands Dream Mousse range

Liquid foundation promises airbrush finish

Maybelline New York has added Dream Liquid Mousse foundation to its Dream Mousse range. It claims to be the first liquid foundation to provide a unique airbrush finish for a flawless complexion and poreless skin.

Dream Liquid Mousse has a revolutionary hybrid formula that combines a liquid with air-soft mousse. It delivers on three common problems many women encounter: texture correction, tone harmonising, and luminosity.

The secret ingredient, elastomers, evens out the skin’s surface, allowing the amino-acid treated pigments to have better affinity to the skin. This unifies the complexion and gives a truer skin colour result.

Meanwhile, the glycerin and water-enhanced formula works with the skin’s own emollients for a lit-from-within glow.

Dream Liquid Mousse is available in eight 8 shades: Porcelain Ivory, Natural Ivory, Classic Ivory, Nude Beige, Nude, Pure Beige, Sandy Beige and Creamy Natural. It is sold at the retail price AED 67.

Maybelline New York has also added a new A-list spokesperson: the ravishing up and coming American 18-year-old beauty, Emily DiDonato, who joins super models Christy Turlington, Julia Stegner, Erin Wasson and Jessica White as the brand’s ambassador.

New product promises more lashes!

Renewal Lash Serum launched by L'ORÉAL Paris

undefined
L'ORÉAL Paris has launched Renewal Lash Serum, a lash booster that gives you more lashes!

Based on a new study by L'ORÉAL Research on the mechanism that determines eyelash life cycles, L'ORÉAL Paris hair care and makeup laboratories entered into a joint collaboration to create an entirely new kind of product that stimulates, strengthens and thickens the lashes.

The serum has to be used twice daily for four weeks for optimum results. During the day, apply the serum then allow it to dry for a few seconds before applying your mascara. At night, apply the serum to bare lashes.

To achieve best results with the Lash Renewal Serum, L'ORÉAL Paris has launched, a two in one eyelash care and mascara designed to give lashes a nourishing boost every day. The new L'ORÉAL Paris Double Extension Mascara with Renewal Serum Inside is the first mascara that combines the Renewal Lash Serum inside a mascara.

This ultra lengthening and intense-black mascara works to visibly lengthen and protect each and every lash.

The new EDP possesses the youthful and optimistic spirit of the EDT but in a deeper, more concentrated scent. The result is a sophisticated, warmer version of Flora that

Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini relied upon the same base of rose and osmanthus flower balanced by sandalwood and patchouli for the scent’s structure. However, the notes are now stronger and more sultry in the Eau de Parfum version.

For the EDP, Giannini has created a new white on black Flora pattern for the package interior, which gives a twist to the original and creates a new, richer look.

The new Eau de Parfum will be complemented by a special collection of luxury gifts that will launch in exclusive doors. Skin care for MEN (Shaving Problems)

Shaving is one of those things in life that you’re expected to know how to do (like taking care of a baby or balancing your checking account). There’s no instruction booklet or summer college course. Judging by the number of men out there with botched facial hair styles and bumpy, razor-burned skin, there should be. But whether you’re a whiz with a razor or bungling beginner, every guy can use a refresher on shaving basics. Here is our list of everyday shaving slip-ups, and more importantly, how to repair them.

No.1 - Barber's rash

Of all the redness and rashes that can come from taking a sharp piece of metal to the flesh, this one’s the worst. Dirty razors and towels are the culprits. Puss-filled bumps and abscesses can develop as a result of the facial hair follicle becoming infected with a strain of strep or staph. But before you go crazy with the home-remedy route, a trip to the doctor for a hearty helping of oral antibiotics is the only cure. Then again, so is a bacteria-free blade and a laundered towel.

No.2 - Uneven hair growth

Not everyone is blessed with being able to grow a full forest on the face. Some guys, no matter how hard they try, can only get as far as patchy, irregular-looking facial hair. Testosterone levels and enzymes that trigger hair growth are one part of the equation. But before you go cry in a corner, rest assured it isn’t a beard that makes the man. And unless you’re crazy enough to get a beard transplant (yes, it’s possible for a pretty price), embrace your inner baby face and keep yourself clean-shaven all the time.

No.3 - Acne

From a localized patch to all-over pizza face, shaving is no easy task when you have acne. And needless to say, taking a sharp object to irritated skin can often make matters worse. The only way to cope is with extra special care. The regular regimen applies: Preshave oil or face wash, warm water to soften the skin, and a moisturizer to soothe and protect. But having the hands of a surgeon when shaving is also critical here. Take your time when traveling on a bumpy road -- incising a zit can cause permanent damage.

No.4 - Blind spots

It can be hard enough to mow the visible vegetation, but what about those hard-to-see spots like behind your jaw? Even the nooks and crannies underneath your nose and around your mouth are cause for concern. Using a shaver with a special trimming blade like the Gillette Fusion will help you reach the tough stuff. But your biggest weapon in the war against runaway hairs is time. Spend a minute or two to cross-check your handiwork.

No.5 - Dry skin

Parched pores form a sealant on the surface of the skin. The result: flakes, redness or worse, ingrown hairs trapped underneath the dry, scaly outer layer. And while winter’s low relative humidity is the first place to point a finger, dry skin can occur throughout the year from a whole host of causes, including harsh soaps, vitamin deficiencies and sunburns. Fortunately, the fix here is fast and easy: Use an all-purpose moisturizer with SPF every day after showering for soft, supple skin (a blade’s best friend).

No.6 - Sensitive skin

Some guys are born with skin of steel; others you can’t so much as breathe on without causing a blemish to bloom. Blame it on your parents, the weather or just plain bad luck; having sensitive skin is no fun when you’re forced to lop off your beard five days a week. But all it takes is some preshave and postshave rituals to relieve even the most delicate dermal layers. A beard-softening oil, face wash or exfoliating scrub will help prepare the beard for battle. An aftershave balm in the form of a soothing cream moisturizer is the ultimate way to prevent against bumps and burns once the deed is done.

No.7 - Ingrown hairs

This little gem is arguably the most painful problem of the bunch, and naturally, one of the hardest to remedy. An ingrown hair is most commonly caused by the broken end of a hair -- typically caused from shaving -- growing sideways or curling back underneath the skin. And while your first instinct may be to go fishing with tweezers, resist temptation. Grab a hot washcloth instead, which calms the irritation and brings the hair to the surface of the skin. Then, you have a yellow light to pluck away. Topical treatments like a simple salicylic acid also work wonders to help soothe and remove.

No.8 - Razor bumps

You may think razor bumps are a superficial reaction to a razor, but this problem runs deeper. Literally. The medical term is Pseudofolliculitis barbae or PFB -- a persistent irritation that results from shaving. The problem begins when coarse, curly hair causes an inflammation in the follicle as it begins to grow following a close shave. In more extreme cases, pustules that resemble acne can develop if the area becomes infected. Stick to fragrance- and alcohol-free products, which can dry and irritate the skin. Exfoliating prior to shaving and using over-the-counter salicylic acid solutions afterward are also a good idea. Finally, when all else fails, let the beard be.

No.9 - Nicks and cuts

The last thing you want is to look like you got in a brutal brawl with your blade. Slicing and dicing can occur when your razor is too dull or alternatively, when it’s fresh out of the gate and too much pressure is being applied. As usual, make sure the blade is sharp and go easy on the handle -- it should glide effortlessly. And if the occasional cut occurs, skip the toilet paper and reach for a styptic pencil or a dab of rubbing alcohol on the skin.

No.10 - Razor burn

You know that red rash all too well. Just when you thought you were in the clear, your nemesis known as razor burn pops up two to four days after the shave, as the beard begins to grow back. Its causes are almost too numerous to name: super-sensitive skin, blunt blades, dry shaving, shaving too fast, applying too much pressure on the razor, and going against the grain. So, how do you avoid becoming a victim of shaving enemy No. 1? For starters, keep the skin moist throughout the shaving process. That means prepping with a shave oil, using a gel-based cream for the actual shaving itself and finishing up with a soothing moisturizer. Then, make sure your blade is sharp and lay off from pressing so hard. A good razor doesn’t require the extra pressure.

A Short Interview

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A VJ, or was that unplanned? I've always wanted to be a VJ actually. Even while I was in school, I had applied to MTV Australia, but obviously, they weren't taking kids in then. : I had modeled for Style Check once. And then a few years later, when MTV had their first VJ Hunt, I just happened to hear about it when I was on holiday in India. I went back to Australia first, and then came back to audition later. I had to differ my admission into University. But I think it was fate, because I found out that I had won 2 days before my visa was going to expire! Yea…but it was just the right time and the right place.
You've done a few Bollywood films after becoming a VJ….
Yea, I enjoy doing films. My first was Mumbai Matinee - I enjoyed doing the film song Loot Gaye there. And then I did Virrudh, and that was great because I got to work with Amitabh Bachchan and John Abraham! And then I did Anthony Kaun Hai with Arshad (Warsi).
So are you working on any projects currently, other than your shows on MTV?
Well I'm doing an album with my band - i.e. my sisters (who have just shifted to India) and me have a group called Tihai. Our musical style is very R'n'B - Pop, but fused with Indian sounds.
What does Tihai mean?
Oh, it means the third beat of an instrumental.
So what do you want - MTV glory, or Bollywood fame?
Both! Why not?!! Are you religious? Well, I believe there is someone there - a higher power. Religion helps keep the faith for some, but I'm not biased to any one. I have all Gods in my house.
Who matters the most in your life?
My mom, without a doubt! Are you seeing anyone…and if not,
what kind of a man would you date?
I don't talk about my personal life (in public). But what I find attractive in a man is someone who is not afraid to be themselves, is down to earth, real, genuine….honest. And he needs to work. I like men who are focused professionally, because I am. And he needs to be enthusiastic.
You've got a great body, do you work out?
No, but I'm thinking of starting Yoga. You used to host MTV Style Check, which made you quite an authority on fashion.
What is your ultimate fashion statement?
Pajamas! I think it's something that people always neglect. I love my jammies and I think it's important to look good when you sleep. You never know who'll ring your bell in the morning!

Reebok EasyTone Shoes

Reebok EasyTone Shoes are all the rage with balance pods that, as the advertisements claim, create instability which "encourages toning through increased muscle activation" in the glutes, hamstrings and calves. In theory, it makes sense that an unstable surface may activate your leg muscles in a different way, but does that lead to toned hips and thighs? There are no objective scientific studies to prove their claims and science already tells us that toned legs come from regular cardio and strength training. EasyTones may make being on your feet more comfortable, but they won't take the place of regular workouts.

The Claims

Easytones are designed with balance pods under the shoes. The idea is that these pods create a slight instability that forces your leg muscles to work harder, thus encouraging more toning. Reebok claims that these shoes will improve muscle tone in the glutes by 28% and the hamstrings and calves by 11%. The fitness models in their advertisements certainly make you think you'll end up with a butt so fabulous, you'll want it to hang out the bottom of your very short shorts. However, I was unable to find the actual study these numbers are based on, nor could I find any objective scientific studies on these shoes. As of now, there's no proof these claims are true.
These shoes are more for walking and won't offer the support or stability you need for high impact exercises such as running or for activities with a lot of lateral movement like tennis or basketball. They do offer different types of EasyTones, including a running version and casual flip flops.

Reported Issues

Many of my readers here have commented on their experience with EasyTones and most reports are positive. Many readers say the shoes are comfortable, especially for people on their feet all day. I found that they can be comfortable for walking, but that's probably the only activity I would personally use them for. However, these shoes aren't for everyone and some users had issues such as:
Numbness in the feet or toes - Some users reported numbness, especially in their toes. That may be because the shoe is cutting off the circulation. Some readers may find relief by wearing thinner socks, lacing the shoes in a different way or exchanging them for a different size.
Pain, soreness or injury - Some readers reported sore legs and calves after wearing the them and some reported lower back pain. Some even reported injuries that had to be treated by a doctor/physical therapist. It's hard to know what caused these problems, but they may be related to preexisting injuries, individual foot/arch differences, wearing them for long periods of time or for activities that require a different kind of support (running, tennis, etc.). To avoid injury, talk to your doctor before you buy the shoes if you already have an injury or pain in your joints or feet. You should also practice wearing them for short periods of time to see how your body responds.
Deflated pods - Some users also reported deflated pods, which can happen with any shoe with air-filled pockets. Check with your retailer about their return/replacement policy before you buy the shoes.

The Bottom Line

It's certainly possible these shoes will activate your legs more (and it certainly feels that way), but that doesn't mean you'll have more toned glutes and thighs because of it.
Your experience with this shoe will most likely depend on why you're buying it. If you're looking for drastic changes in your body or you want to look like some of the women wearing booty shorts in the EasyTone advertisements, no shoe, no matter how fabulous, can do that for you.
What we do know is that a pair of shoes isn't enough to change the shape of your hips, glutes and thighs unless, perhaps, you strap them to your thighs with a couple of weight for some squats and lunges. If you want to tone your body, you need to build muscle with strength training and lose body fat with cardio and a healthy diet. It's possible that you'll walk more with the EasyTones and that may contribute to burning more calories which is always a good thing. However, expecting more than that may leave you disappointed. If you're buying these shoes because you want a comfortable shoe that offers a different kind of support, you may be happy with the EasyTones.

Brown Skin is Beautiful

It’s surprising how different ‘fairness cream’ products make girls with dark complexion look helpless, neglected and unattractive in their advertisements. To be honest, it is unfortunate how most people in our country have the same idea about dark girls. Well the truth is that this ‘idea’ is absolutely absurd. Don’t they know who Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce and Rihanna are? Here’s a myth-buster against the so-called “fashion-don’ts for dark girls”.
1) “Dark girls shouldn’t wear bright colours”: This one is most probably the most popular misconception. Any colour, whether bright or dark will look good on dark skin if worn and accessorised properly. Take the bright yellow jacket on ‘Umbrella’- star Rihanna for instance. Try red, purple, orange or light blue clothes and balance them out with a dim or soft toned scarf or handbag.
2) “Dark girls shouldn’t wear too much makeup”: Girls, always remember to check the colour of your foundation, concealers and eye shadows on the top of your hand before you buy them. This will help to determine whether the colour suites your skin or not. I would advice not to use silver or baby pink shadows, and to avoid coloured metallic eye shadows.
Radiant and healthy skin always looks gorgeous no matter what the complexion. It is very important to take good care of your skin and especially dark, oily skin. Oily skin is more prone to pimples which might result in marks and spots. Spots ruin the natural radiant beauty of dark skin. Cleanse a number of times during the day and never go to bed with makeup.
Ignore all those meaningless advertisement and remarks from brainless people. Be yourself, be proud of who you are, don’t ever let anyone tell you that you are not beautiful.

Decorate Your Own T- Shirt

The famous Indian tennis star Sania Mirza is not only known for her tennis, but also her penchant for illustrious t-shirt quotes. For instance, she once wore a tee saying: “Look At My Game Also”. Apart from using quotes, they are many other ways in which a t-shirt can be decorated to show off your attitude. Such embellishments express your personality without hurting others. Kids and the younger generation are known to love decorating their t- shirts. For instance, when cricket matches are going on, you can see their tees reflecting the spirit of the game. Even otherwise, designing and decorating a t-shirt is a fantastic activity to undertake on your own. To help you in the task of decorating your own t-shirt, we have listed a number of ideas in the lines below. You can have a lot of fun with these t-shirt ideas, some easy and some tricky. Try them all or go with one of them. Be creative, innovative, and try to bring across a reflection of your personality. Happy decorating!

How To Decorate Tee- Shirts At Home

Painting

Designing and decorating t -shirts is a fantastic activity that you can undertake at home. To start with, you can write one or more fun quotes on your shirt. Use letter fabrics and tube fabric paints for the purpose. You can also use tube fabric paints for just outlining the shapes and pictures and give them a 3D effect.

Tie Dye

For this, you will require a t-shirt, cotton strings, dye colors, wooden spoons and plastic tubs. First, preshrink your shirt by washing and drying up. Mix the dyes as instructed on the packets, using different containers and spoons for mixing colors. Get the shirt wet and squeeze away excess water. Make designs on the t-shirt by wrapping the strings around. Dip the shirts in one of the dye tubs and squeeze away the extra color. When you have finished dyeing a type of design, remove the knots, strings, or threads. Next, rinse the t-shirt till the water runs clear and hang up for drying. Do not dip the t-shirt in different colors or you will end up graying it. Make designs of your own by tying it up in various styles, like the rope or the marble style.

Using Crayons

This is fun and an easy decorating activity for children. it works best on a t-shirt that is a mix of cotton and polyester blend. You will require washable crayons, an iron, a coloring book, tracing paper, fabric paints or puffy paints and a t-shirt, for the purpose. Trace the picture on the t-shirt and make the lines permanent, by using fabric paints. Iron the shirt inside out, when the black paint has dried. When the t-shirt cools down, your child can color in the traced picture with washable crayons. The colors are not permanent and can be washed away. You can use different colors for the picture. Do not wash the t-shirt with other clothes, as the colors can get onto other laundry.

Handprint Or Footprint

They are fun to make, but a little tricky. You will require fabric paints, paper plates, a cardboard, and a pre-shrunk t-shirt. First, squeeze out some paint on the paper plate. Place the cardboard between the t-shirt. Dip your hands or your kid’s hands in the paint, with fingers wide open. Use paper towel to remove excess paint. Place the hands on the t-shirts. Use your imagination and create your own design. You can even write dates and names on the t-shirt.

Using Stencils

You will need contact paper, scissors, newspaper or cardboard, pencil, sponges, fabric paint, and paper plates. The first step is to build the stencils. First, cut the contact paper into six inches of circles or squares. You can draw any size of your choice. Draw some shapes and letters on the contact paper with the pencil. Cut the center part of the design and leave the outer edge as stencil. Place a thick layer of newspapers or cardboards between the front and back of the t-shirt. Now, you are ready to sponge the designs on the t-shirt. Pour some fabric paint on the paper plates and get ready to sponge. Peel the back of the stencil and put it on your t-shirt, with the sticky side down. Fill the stencils with paint. Peel off the stencil when the paint is set, but not dry yet. Repeat this process with different colors, with different stencils.

Bead Embellishment

This style does not include paint, rather beads are used for decoration. You will require beads in different colors, a nylon string, and a needle. Put a bead on the string and tie it on one end. You can make a pattern of 3-4 beads and stitch the string right around the corner of the collar. You will have to repeat this process for around seven-eight times. You can also form this embellishment on the sleeves.

Makeup and Dress-up tips for teen girls

Makeup and clothing is an issue for many teenage girls. If you are stressing about what you should look like as a newcomer in middle school, or a freshie in high school, here's a quick guide to help your fashion mature with you throughout middle and high school.
In Sixth grade, wear lip gloss, some mascara, and maybe a little bit of pale eyeshadow; don't go too heavy or it may look bad. If you want to try out more types of makeup, keep that for home experiments.
As for clothes, keep it in your comfort level. Bear this in mind: if you are wearing a bra or undershirt, don't let the straps hang out. It doesn't look cool; it just looks sloppy. If you are wearing a short shirt, check in the mirror to see if your stomach hangs out of the bottom. Otherwise, wear something a little bit longer. Also, if your pants are likely to slip, wear a belt. Belts are totally hip now!
* The main point is to keep the makeup light, and the clothes clean cut. In Seventh grade you are beginning to care a little more what you look like; you might want to try curling your hair a few days a week, and using different hairstyles besides your typical ponytail.
If you are acne prone, try foundation. Remember thet even oily skin can get flaky and that looks horrible with foundation. So try it on weekends first and ask your mother (or someone that uses foundation well) if it looks okay.
In Seventh grade you might want to try eyeliner. But not too much because you don't want to look like a racoon! Start trying to tie outfits together with accessories. It's good to try new things with your makeup and clothes. But when you try the new things, make sure it looks good on you, not just in the picture or at the store. Check out different stores, and find out if there is a style that suits you.
In eighth grade you are probably getting good at makeup and you know what you like. Try establishing your own hairstyle without looking like everyone else. For example, if everyone has long, layered hair with no bangs, try light wispy bangs and a shorter, layered look.
You might be wearing tighter jeans now and probably starting to get concerned with impressing the guys, so it's safe to try out more mature styles such as a sleek leather blazer, or lower cut necklines. If you are happy with your sports bra, that is totally OK. But it's safe now to check out the actual bra department and wear something that makes you feel pretty - like lace.
Ninth grade: high school! This is a big transition. Now in the same world as seniors, you are going to want to look like the rest of your peers. You should by now have your makeup and hair styles already. Try to update this look a bit, because no one wants to carry the same look they had in middle school. Dramatize a detail in your hair. If its known for it's left side part, part it even deeper. Make a straight style even sleeker and hip. Learn to make youre curls tighter, or looser.
In high school you might want to wear your usual make up during the day, and as you start to go out with friends and boys at night, add a darker shade of eyeliner, or jazz up your lips with something more festive. It's also good to try new shoes, try wearing spikier ankle boots with a pair of hot jeans and a blouse. Chunkier heels aren't as hip as spikes as you get older. Incorporate accessories into your outfit. Buy yourself a bag that's in suede or leather to keep your schoolbooks in, instead of a backpack. You will want to buy yourself a new jacket, and make it your own.
You know what you like, so go and find clothes that fit your style, but crank it up a notch for a more mature feel.

Wacky styles in fashion now!

Thanks to superstars like Lady GaGa and Rihanna, bright & loud colours in makeup and wacky “out of place” accessories have made a firm place in today’s fashion trends. To some people, this just might sound insane, but we can try out these things ourselves too! We just have to be careful about how we carry it out. So this one is for you all out there who want to try out something different and eccentric.
Let’s start with the classic red nail polish. Certain things never go out of style and red nail polish is one of them. It usually looks good with gorgeous gowns or sarees, but we want to break the rules! Keep it monochrome or spill in some more colours like purple or maybe even yellow. Green, electric blue, silver are great colours for nails too. Try it out anytime but apply nail polish in two coats and always use quality products. If you are more into nail art, accessories your nails with pretty, shiny stones and stickers.
Who doesn’t like a shimmering and prominent pair of high heels? They are ever so sexy, conspicuous and best way to complete a look. In case of heels, there are many options. Tie-ups, stilettos, plain pencils heels etc are available in many colours and designs but my advice would be to wear shoes of one solid colour that compliments the colour of your clothing. Obviously you want it to be “stand out” but you don’t want to look like a clown either! Red stilettos are the best in my eyes, but there is a whole array of colours you can choose from. They look great with jeans, salwar and sarees too.
If you don’t want to go through all that judging and choosing of colours, just throw all your girl stuff, books and other necessaries in a spacious, colourful bag and you are set to catch some eyes! Like our teen superstar Venessa hudgens. Try balloon bags in blue, green or any colour, shape & design you like. These are really helpful and stylish at the same time so it’s best for busy women who have a lot to do outside and don’t have enough time to think about looking hip.

Rule One For wackiness:

never try out all these things at once. Keep the other accessories low when you are concentrating on flaunting one in particular.

Rule two For wackiness:

always make sure you are comfortable in what you are wearing. Thats the magic rule of stylish.

Rule three for wackiness

try to be original. Do not copy your favourite star directly. Remember that this is not hollywood.

So go ahead and try these out. Be a Rockstar...

Applying Eyeshadow: Tips and tricks

Eye shadow is perhaps the most beloved cosmetic of creative makeup artists. Since eyes is the most important focal point of the face, the eye makeup techniques and choice of colors for eyeshadow should suit the shape and color of your eyes. The most important trick to keep in mind is that the light colors highlight the spots while dark colors tame them down. The first step in applying the eyeshadow is to apply a neutral concealer that matches your skin tone on the eyelid and then sweep the lightest shade over the entire area from the lash line to the brow line to create the smudge resistant base. Apply the medium shade on the lower lid and blend it into your base shade. A third color can also be added along the lash line and outer corner of the eyes as an accent to create the depth in eyes. The other tips that you can use are:
  • 1. Blondes with blue eyes should opt for browns and taupes while those with green eyes can go for soft mauves and lilacs.
  • 2. Blue eyeshadow should only be worn only if you either have fair skin, black or platinum hair and brown or gray eyes or very dark skin.
  • 3. Don't match your shadow with your eyes or your clothes so that attention remains with your eyes and not your makeup!
  • 4. Emphasizing the inner corner of the eyes to make them look closer to each other. This can be done by applying a neutral base color over the whole eye and then dust a medium color on the inner half of the eyelid and blend it outward. You can then use eyeliner to line the lid from the inner corner of the eye to the middle and blend it outward.
  • 5. For day makeup, base color and mascara are the only things you need to wear for eyes.
  • 6. High quality powder eyeshadows can be used wet for heavier application by dampening your applicator a little.
  • 7. Lighter shadows help the bigger while darker shades make them look smaller. For bigger eyes, sweep a light shade over lid and darker shade on the outer corner of the lid and the crease. Outline the eyes using the eyeliner on the outer side of upper and lower lids while tapering a bit on the outside the eye to elongate it. Dab a white or cream shadow in the middle of the brow bone as a last step.
  • 8. Neutral shades like browns and beiges look natural while brighter shades like blue and green look dramatic and artificial.
  • 9. On mature skin and puffy eyelids, avoid using iridescent, frosted, light colors and white eyeshadows and opt for soft matte colors instead.
  • 10. Only use cream eyeshadows that do not cause creasing upon application and should be coordinated with powder shadows that are to be used on top of them. They should be applied using fingertips.
  • 11. Sweep a light or medium-tone shade on the lid and slightly darker shade above the eye crease to downplay the brow bone. Eyeliner should be thick in the middle of the eye and tapering at both ends. Add light highlighter to brow bone.
  • 12. To add definition to your eyelids, apply a medium-toned shade across the lid and brow bone and dust the under brow area with a light highlighter shade. Use a very fine pencil liner of natural color to line the upper and lower lash lines.
  • 13. To glamorize eyes for night outs, add shimmer to highlight your eyes.
  • 14. To lift up tired eyes extend the color from the outer corner of the lid upwards to give them a feline shape. A light highlighter on the brow bone without the eyeliner brightens up the eyes. Concentrate mascara on the inner corner of the eye.
  • 15. To make them look wider apart, keep the inside corners of the eyes lighter than the outer edges. Apply concealer one shade lighter than your skin at the inner corner of the lids and the sides of your nose and blend it well. Use a matte medium to dark eyeshadow and stroke it outward and slightly upward from middle of the lid to its outer half. Use the eyeliner a bit in from the inner corner of the eye and make the line tapering up and out a bit past the outer corner of the eyes.

Facial and Skin Care

Daily skin & facial care makes us look more charming and beautiful. By following some easy tips, you can look younger and more beautiful without spending too much of extra time and money. Before beginning you skin care regime, consider your skin type, is it oily, normal, combination, dry, sensitive, or sun-damaged. After knowing your skin type, you can use products available in the market meant for your skin. However, healthy skin is something that is from within; eating healthy food and avoiding stress can help you the most in this. The four basic steps of skin and facial care are:

Cleansing

Start your skin care with cleansing. Get a cleanser that suits your skin type. Steer clear of soaps as they make your skin dry; cleansers on the other hand contain oil, surfactants and water. Cleanser helps to remove oil, dirt and makeup from your skin effectively. However, using cleanser too often can also be harmful; at times just washing your face at night is enough. In the morning, it's great to use a splash of lukewarm water to remove excess oils from your skin caused by nightly moisturizer.

Scrubbing

Scrubs are very useful for removing the top layer of dead skin cells that make your complexion dull. A gentle scrub with tiny grains is the best for all skin types, as big grains in cheap scrubs can tear your skin and can cause rather more harm than good. You can also use a half-teaspoon of sugar for scrubbing your face. Keep rubbing it until it melts away and then wipe off your face with a warm & wet cloth. Thrash of the flour can also be used for scrubbing. You can also find some good scrubs in the market.

Moisturizing

Moisturizer is a must for everyone, no matter which skin type you have. Even oily skin will benefit from moisturizers. Only the skin with acne should avoid it. Your skin will tell you that how much moisturizer is needed. If your skin is tight, it means that it needs moisture, but do not over moisturize your skin as it can cause clogged pores. You can go for any of the good quality moisturizers available in the market, but make sure that you read the information written on it as for which skin type it may be used. Olive oil can also be used to give your face required moisture, but it can only be used in winters.

Use Sun-Screen

The skin care you're doing can go waste if you don't have the habit of using sun-screen lotion. Yes, the UV Rays of the Sun adversely affect our skin, even causing skin cancer. It is important to make a protection shield on your skin while going out. Skin care is not only about doing cleansing, scrubbing and moisturizing, but it's also about maintaining. Apply sun-screen lotion daily on exposed parts of the body on daily basis to avoid tanning and other skin-related problems.

Some Other Skin-Care Tips

Along with your face, other parts of your body also need care. If your eyes look puffy or swollen, wash your face and cover your eyes with sliced potatoes or cucumbers for a few minutes. This is really effective in the morning. Clean you nails with white vinegar before applying nail polish for a smoother finish and make it last longer. Olive oil mixed with melted beeswax can serve as a great lip balm. Try all these tips suggested and get prepared for receiving bunch of compliments for your glowing & youthful skin.

Beauty Diet

Your diet contributes a great deal towards making you beautiful. Therefore eating a proper healthy diet is important to keep looking beautiful. Given below are a number of food items that you should include in your beauty diet.

* Almonds:

These nuts are known for their anti-aging properties. They contain a lot of vitamin E and have a high amount of fatty acids that help to keep your skin supple. Almonds also contain antioxidant selenium. Do not too many of them as they will add calories. A handful is enough.

* Protein:

To keep nails strong and moisturized by eating plenty of protein. Protein helps in the build up of keratin. Keratin is the substance that makes up nails. Skinless, boneless chicken breast, lean turkey, tuna and beans are rich in proteins.

* Vitamin B:

Food that is rich in vitamin B makes your hair shiny. Important sources of this vitamin are eggs, milk, green vegetables and poultry. Silica is important to keep your hair elastic, shiny and healthy. Raw oats, cucumber skin, onions and bean sprouts are rich in this mineral.

* Fish:

Eating oily fish like salmon that contain omega-3 fatty acids will help hydrating and nourishing skin.

* Zinc and Calcium:

Both these minerals help in eradicating pimples. Zinc is found in oysters, turkey, seafood, eggs and milk. Calcium is no doubt good for your bones, but helps in clearing your skin too. Calcium rich foods like skim milk, low-fat cheese and yogurt. These foods not only remove pimples but reduce wrinkles as well.

* Vitamin C:

Vitamin C helps in the build up of collagen, which reduces wrinkles. When your skin has more collagen your skin retains its elasticity and wrinkles take longer to form. Kiwi fruit is the best source of vitamin C. Other good sources are oranges, mango, honeydew and papaya.

* Vitamin E:

Vitamin E is known to ease the swelling and redness associated with sunburns. Swelling causes the stretching of skin that in turns leads to wrinkle formation. Eat plenty of peaches and blueberries to increase the build up of vitamin E in your body.

* Vitamin C and Iron:

Vitamin C and iron together help to reduce the dark circles under your eyes. Eat skinless chicken and red, yellow and orange peppers. These are rich in both and will help in reducing dark circles.

* Water:

Drink as much as water as you can. Water removes the toxins from the body and refreshes your skin and makes in glow. Water hydrates your skin and keeps it supple.

* Tomatoes:

Tomatoes contains skin-caner-fighting antioxidants: beta-carotene, vitamin C and lycopene. Eat tomatoes in any form and you will ingest these antioxidants. To increase the body's absorption of lycopene cook tomatoes in a little olive oil.

* Apples and Celery:

To remove stain from the enamel of your teeth eat crunchy foods like apples and celery.

One of the easiest ways to get rid of the extra hair around your brow line, waxing is definitely note for those with very sensitive skin. It is more expensive than plucking your eyebrows but lasts longer too. It should best be done under professional supervision. Here are some tips to do eyebrow waxing:
* Before waxing the brows, it is important to prepare them beforehand using a baby toothbrush to define their natural shape.
* Apply astringent on the brow area to make it numb for sometime.
* Calculate the length of the eyebrow you want by holding a ruler parallel to your nose, leveling it with the inner corner of the eye to see where you the brow should begin and mark the point with a dot using the brow pencil.
* For people with close-set eyes, gap between the brows should be left wider while those whose eyes are far apart; the gap should be less for a balancing illusion.
* To calculate the curve and mark the highest point of the brow arch, hold the ruler from the edge of the nostril past the outer edge of the iris up to the eyebrow and mark it with a dot too.
* Link the dots in a gentle smooth arch that slightly tapers at the outer ends.
* You will need a professional waxing kit that comes with a jar of hot wax which, a small spatula and muslin removal strips.
* Warm the wax to an optimum temperature by keeping the jar in boiling water and then use the spatula to apply a thin layer of wax on the stray hairs under the eyebrow in the direction of the hair and remove it using the strips in the opposite direction of the hair growth as directed on the kit before the wax dries.
* Never wax above the eyebrows.
* For thick growth, it is better and less painful to wax off a little hair at the time.
* Pluck any stray hair using a set of good tweezers and apply a soothing balm on the area.
* Be careful enough to avoid direct sun light, acid based facial treatments, and liquid makeup for some hours at least.
* Emphasize your brows using an eyebrow pencil or tinted brow shadow.

Nail Manicure

Your nails need to be taken care of too. Giving your nails a manicure is a good way to take care of them and pamper them. Given below are the steps to achieve the perfect manicure at home.
* To begin with remove all traces of your nail polish. Use as many cotton balls as needed.
* Use a nail file or an emery board to shape your nails. File in one direction only. Do not use the seesaw motion. To shorten the nail, use the course side of the emery board first and finish with the finely textured side.
* Work on your nails carefully and with respect. Do not go overboard with your manicure.
* To check if your nails are well done run your nails over a pair of old pantyhose. Your nails should not snag the hose.
* Apply cuticle remover cream and gently push back the cuticles using a cotton bud. Never cut your cuticles. Massage away dead skin using circular movements.
* Apply hand lotion and massage your palm of your hand with the thumb of your other hand. This will improve blood circulation. Work your way all over your hand and repeat with your other hand.
* Before you paint your nails, clean them with an orange stick that has been wrapped with cotton and dipped in nail polish remover and rub over the surface of the nail. Remove any creamy residue, if there is none then you can polish your nails.
* While polishing your nails being in the center of your nail. Paint one stroke down the center and then the sides of the nail. You should paint a nail in three strokes. Let it dry completely before applying the second coat.
* Apply color after your nails are completely dry. Use a base coat before applying nail polish. Then apply a color of your choice and do not apply a new coat before the previous one dries. You should apply three coats of color. After applying color apply topcoat and it will give added protection and help your nail color to last longer without chipping.
* Store nail polish in the fridge. To prevent the cap from sticking apply a little vaseline around it

Top 10 Makeup Mistakes for Women

The sexiest makeup is the application no one notices. But is clumpy mascara, caked foundation or sloppy lip liner keeping you from looking your best? Read on for the top 10 makeup mistakes and how to avoid them…
Women apply cosmetics to look better, to enhance their beauty - not detract from it.

Makeup Mistake #1: Dark lip liner and light lipstick
Along with spandex and big hair, Berg says, “this is one look that should have stayed in the 80s.”

Choose lip liner in a shade close to your natural lip color, she says.

Line and color in your pucker, then top with sheer gloss. If you use dark liner, like a red or berry shade, fill in your mouth completely, and then top with clear gloss, not a light lipstick.

Makeup Mistake #2: Lip liner extending beyond the lip line
What you learned in kindergarten still holds true: Coloring outside the lines is sloppy.

To fake a bigger pout:

1. Hug your lip line with the pencil.

2. Line just the border, but not beyond.
3. Color in your lips and apply a lip-plumping product.

4. Finish with a dab of clear or light gloss on the center of your lower lip; it will reflect the light and make your lips appear fuller.

Makeup Mistake #3: Drawn-in eyebrows
Women with lush, full brows should skip any added color; all they need are tweezers for stray hairs and some brow gel.

To plump up sparse brows, dip an angled brush into brow powder, says Ashunta Sheriff, a makeup artist for Christian Dior, who has worked with Alicia Keys and Hilary Duff. Move the brush along the natural line of the brow, extending it to the edge of the eye.

If your brows are super-thin, Sheriff recommends making short, feathery strokes with a pencil, then topping brows with powder.

Makeup Mistake #4: Eyeliner drawn way past the outer corner of the top eyelid
The “cat-eye” (or Cleopatra) effect is sultry, but not if you go overboard. Use a pencil if you’re a beginner; liquid liner is more glamorous but requires skill and a steady hand.

Here's how to create a perfect eye:

1. Draw a line along the root of the lashes from the inner to outer corner.

2. At the outer edge, subtly slant the line upward. Extend the line no farther than a quarter inch past your eye (or just a tad bit farther for a more dramatic look). Use your eyebrow as a guide: Don’t take the line past its edge.
Makeup Mistake #5: Clumpy mascara
For long, clump-free lashes, follow these tips from Berg:

1. Before you apply, wipe the mascara wand against the opening of the tube to get rid of any excess mascara. Wiggling the wand from side to side, from the base of your lashes to the tips, is the way to avoid clumps.

2. Before the mascara dries, comb through your lashes with an old toothbrush or an eyelash comb to separate them and get rid of the gunk.

3. If you want, apply a second coat, then comb through again.
Makeup Mistake #6: Obvious line of blush
Toss out the dinky brush that came in the compact. A bigger brush will distribute the color more evenly.

“After you dip the brush into the blush, knock it gently on the back of your hand to get rid of excess powder,” Sheriff says.

Smile and apply the blush in short, upward strokes on the apples of your cheeks, blending up to the hairline and ear.

“It will give you a flushed, natural glow,” Sheriff says. If you apply too much, tone down the color with a light dusting of translucent powder.
Finding your best blush color may require some experimentation… or a visit to a makeup counter. But as a rule of thumb, bright colors are a don’t. When in doubt, stick with a pinky/peach hue with a soft shimmer.

Makeup Mistake #7: Bright blue mascara
Teal or cerulean mascara is young, punkish and more suited for rebellious teens. Indigo and navy, on the other hand, are polished and chic for 20-somethings and beyond.

Dark blue mascara can brighten up the whites of your eyes, which is especially useful when you’re tired or your eyes are bloodshot.

“It’s pretty on all eye colors and flattering to everyone,” Berg says.

If blue still seems too outrageous, go for a more subtle look by applying regular black mascara and just tipping the edges of your lashes with blue, Berg suggests.

Makeup Mistake #8: Caked-on foundation
Suffocating your skin with a heavy cover-up will only draw attention to the problem you’re trying to hide. Instead, try these tricks:

For fine lines: Mix in a little moisturizer with your foundation, which will prevent the formula from seeping into the lines.

For blemishes: “Mineral makeup can give great coverage for pockmarks and acne,” Berg says.
Berg also recommends gel foundations, such as those offered by cosmetic company Chantecaille: “It’s expensive, but it works. It looks like real skin.”

Makeup Mistake #9: Foundation line on jaw To avoid a telltale foundation mask, the first step is to select the right shade.

Here are Berg's tips:

1. Ask a salesperson at the makeup counter to pick out several shades, then test a few on your cheek.

2. Step outside into natural light and use a hand mirror to see which shade looks best on you.

Our necks are often a different color than our faces and chests, says Sheriff, so it’s important to blend foundation down into the neck for a uniform color. Use a makeup sponge to create a seamless edge.

Makeup Mistake #10: Lining eyes only halfway
A strong, hard line all the way around your eye can make your peepers look smaller and closer together, but lining them only halfway looks silly.

The solution?

“A softer line can make your eyes look bigger,” Berg says. Here's how to achieve a softer line:

1. Line your top and bottom lids at the inner edge of the iris and extend the liner to the outer corner of your eye.

2. Then, gently smudge the line toward the inner corner of your eye to create a softer look.

Apart from this, who does not love being the center of attention in a party? In case you are scheduled to attend some party recently, go through this article to discover some handy tips on part makeup.

How is Party Makeup different from Regular Makeup?

Party Makeup is very different from the makeup we apply on a regular basis. As most of the parties are scheduled on evening or night time, the party make up is obviously more glittery and shining than the regular make up. It is also comparatively darker and dazzling than the regular makeup. Apart from the clean, clear and attractive look, the party makeup aspires to provide a poised and jaw drop gorgeous look.

Before you choose a Party Makeup

It is very important for you to keep certain points in mind before you go for a party make up.
Go for a makeup that suits the mood of the party.
Choose the makeup complementing your skin tone.
Try to look gorgeous without experimenting much with your comfort level.
Go with a makeup that suits your persona.
If you are planning to do something new, go for a trial first to avoid any haphazard at the last moment.
Try doing something different from what is in extreme fashion to avoid being a commoner.
Feel confident of whatever you get done with yourself and carry it well.

Tips for Party Makeup

Go for proper cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturizing before anything else.
Apply ice all over your face.
Now thoroughly apply concealer in order to hide the scars and imperfections on your face.
You should then apply light base and foundation on your face and neck to make your skin smooth and even. This also helps to avoid sweating which can spoil your makeup.
You should now apply a highlighted oil-free moisturizer mixed with shining products such as shimmer dust to provide extra shine to your face. Remember to set loose powder by even brushing on the face and neck.
You can experiment with eye makeup according to party wear you are planning to wear. However, Smokey eyes are always a good option for a sexy and sensual look in parties.
Choose your lipstick in accordance with your dress. However go for darker shades if it is a night party.
Golden, bronze and silver liners add to your freshness and glamour. So prefer using them.
In case the party is a little formal or a day time party, go for a little lighter make up and less shimmering dresses.

The Coolest Hair Cuts: Layers and Bangs

All-one-length tresses are totally over. To look up-to-the-minute sexy, you've gotta snip some bouncy layers or hip bangs into your locks. We help you choose the look that's right for you.
Everyone's doing it. From screen stars to pop singers, all the trendsetting celebs are updating their tresses by getting piecey layers or eye-skimming bangs sliced into their locks. And there's a good reason: "Adding any kind of face-framing pieces to the style you have makes it much more flattering to your features and a whole lot sexier," says Oscar Blandi, the NYC stylist and salon owner who created the looks on these pages. And what's great about both these mane effects is that they don't require losing lots of length or making a dramatic change.

To Layer Your Locks

All-one-length strands may have looked good on Marcia Brady, but today's hottest stars are all about alluring, swinging hair that has tons of body. And the good news is, you don't have to be as tress-blessed as Courteney Cox Arquette to work this style. "Anyone can wear layers and incorporating some into your existing cut is the easiest way to give it a sexy, more modern look," says Blandi. But not all layers are created equal. "You have to match them to your natural hair texture," he says. Here, how to know which kind is right for your mane type.

If you have a curly coif, go for long, graduated layers all over your head to give your spirals definition so they are less frizz-prone.

If your strands are superfine, make some of your layers around ear-length to get volume at the roots.

If your mane is straight or kind of wavy and you want to make it look more shapely, add layers in the underneath section of your hair for a shaggy, bedhead look.

If your locks are ultrathick and you need to thin them out, ask your stylist to hold the scissors vertically while cutting the layers to take away the bulk.

Styling Secrets

Heed these pro tricks to get the layered-locks effect shown above. First, coat damp strands with a smoothing serum, then blow-dry your roots. Once they're dry, attach a slanted nozzle to the dryer and, starting at the back of your head, wrap two-inch sections of hair around a round brush, one at a time. To get the most volume, brush these sections of hair upward as you dry, says Blandi. When you get to the front section of your hair, dry it inward, toward your face. Next, mix more shine serum with a dab of pomade in your palm, then run it from your ears down to accentuate your layers. Flip your head over, blast with cool air, flip upright, and your mane will have a tousled effect, says Blandi.

To Bring on the Bangs

If you haven't worn fringe since you had training wheels on your bike, you'll be happy to hear that they've come a long way. The newest bangs range from long and blunt to side-swept and wispy, which means every girl can find a style that's perfect for her. "Bangs will look good on just about anyone. The key is determining the type that best complements your face shape," says Blandi. Here, his guide for figuring out which fringe is ideal for you:
If your face is round, the most flattering effect is long, feathery bangs that curve into your face to minimize your full cheeks and add contour to your features. If your face is long, go for blunt brow-level bangs that cover your forehead and create the illusion of a more oval-shaped face. Also, ask your stylist to add longer layers at the sides.
If your face is square, check out long, side-swept bangs that taper into layers near your jaw. This style will help soften the angles of your face. Snip tip: Make sure your stylist sees your locks when they're dry first, since hair is longer when it's wet. You don't want the stylist to screw up and snip off too much.

Styling Secrets

When blow-drying your bangs, the trick is to tackle them when they're sopping wet. To get perfect results, first apply a small drop of a light shine serum to the area. Then clamp a two-inch section of bangs between two fingers and blow-dry the roots only; alternate aiming the dryer above and below the roots so they don't get too flat or too puffy. When all the roots are almost dry but the ends are still damp, use a small, flat brush to curve the ends under while you blow-dry. If you want your bangs stick straight, smooth them out by running a small flatiron from midlength down. Finish with a mist of hair spray.

The nomadic and quirky line debuted in 'Guzaarish'

One of our fave designers has just expanded his style range, and we couldn't be more excited! Sabyasachi Mukherjee's jewellery line has debuted with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's just-released 'Guzaarish', and it's got exactly the sort of quirky individuality the designer is known for.

The navratan necklace worn by Aishwarya Rai in the climax of the film and other items like raindrop earrings, coral kanpashas, rhodolite balis, butterfly earrings, minakari bird ring and the turquoise and coral ring that she wears in the film have been designed by Sabyasachi and crafted by GAJA, the retail brand of Shree Ganesh Jewellery House.

"When Sanjay Leela Bansali approached me for 'Guzaarish', I realised that jewellery would play a very important role in shaping up Sophia's character as played by Aishwarya Rai," Sabyasachi said.

"It would have to be nomadic, quirky and personalised and so I decided to bring on board GAJA in SABYASACHI (his lable) because it epitomises that spirit. The whole line has been designed by me keeping in mind a multicultural element with a nomadic vibe."

For the collection, Sabyasachi used precious and semi-precious stones, minakari and filigree and had to work with about 60 skilled workers from West Bengal to complete the line.

The price range of rings and earrings starts from Rs.40,000 and navratan necklaces are priced at Rs.510,000
