Suitspiration from Tom Ford

Take all of the year's fashionable men's suit styles, cinch in the waist, opt for bold colours and fabrics and finish off by pairing each of the suits with a standout pair of footwear and you have, in essence, Tom Ford's spring 2011 men's collection. Containing peaked lapels aplenty, also look out for Ford's take on the season's smart casual, from which the chaps who read Fashionising.com should be able to take plenty of pointers.

Flipped shirt collar for 2011

Scott Schumann brings us this men's shirt styling trend by way Japan where chaps who enjoy indulging in European tailoring and, by association, the majority of the current men's suiting trends flip the shirt's collar as a point of style.
flipped shirt collar
Scott also points out that so popular is the look that even shop displays are merchandised with it.

Of the whole look, however, it's really the men's brooch pinned through the lapel that really catches my eye.

Men's spring 2011 fashion trends: key looks

Men's motorcycle fashion

It's a trend that's in for women in spring 2011, and visual elements of the motorcycle look are also in for men. Spearheaded by a number of design houses, including Burberry, the main element of this men's trend is obviously the motorcycle jacket. For more inspiration on the trend take a look at the men's motorcycle fashion guide, which goes into some detail about the differences of what's in for men versus women.

Double breasted Tom Ford suits with pointed / peak lapels
f there's one cut that I'm glad I've been able to return to my wardrobe it's the modern, double-breasted suit. Those of you who recall the last time that double breasted suits and sports coats were in fashion may remember the boxy cut it inevitably came with. Fear not, that cut has gone. In its place is one that defies what double breasted suits were originally designed to do: hide a plump figure. Instead they're now designed to accent and to heighten the perfect masculine shape: the V-shaped, well worked body.Incidentally, if you're still in possession of a double breasted suit from an earlier era, take it off to your tailor to refresh its life.

Choosing the Best Walking Shoe for You

A good pair of walking shoes runs you anywhere from $40 to $100. They should have good shock absorption and should be stiffer and more supportive than running shoes, despite having a flexible forefoot. The midsoles are thinner than those of running shoes to accommodate the slower foot roll when you walk. They feature beveled, or slightly angled, heels to allow for a smooth heel-to-toe roll. Knowing your foot type and having a basic understanding of shoe terminology should help you pick the shoe that's best for you. Even before you put the shoe on, you should be able to do a quick inspection and have an idea as to whether it's a good choice or not. Of course, you should always try on any shoe you buy for fit and comfort.

* Pronators should look for a shoe with a motion control device in the midsole. They also should look for a board-lasted, straight shoe, which provides support for the inside of the foot and thus prevents you from overusing the inside edge of your foot. Pronators should also look for a reinforced heel counter for control and stability. Sturdy uppers and stability straps can also help prevent inward roll. Shoes with too much padding can exaggerate pronation, so avoid them.

* Supinators should look for greater stability and a shoe with an outer sole, insole, and midsole designed for extra shock absorbency. Slip-lasted, curved shoes are probably your best bet because supinators have rigid feet. Buy shoes with reinforced material around the ankles and firm heel counters for maximum ankle and heel support. Extra cushioning under the ball of the foot helps increase comfort.

* Owners of neutral feet can wear just about any shoes and be ensured of proper support and comfort, but you may find that shoes that have a curved shape fit best. Even if your feet are neutral and you have no injury issues, don't skimp on the basic walking shoe features.

Taking note of injury patterns

Pay attention to your usual points of injury — even if your walking routine didn't cause them. If you are prone to joint pain in your ankles, knees, hips, or lower back, look for a well - cushioned shoe that allows your foot to move naturally. Definitely make an effort to walk in walking shoes as opposed to dress shoes or running shoes.

Keeping mileage, speed, and walking surface in mind

Walkers who average more than 30 miles a week and/or who walk for speed should look for high-performance walking shoes. Here's what to look for in a high-performance shoe:

* Light weight
* Lots of features to improve stability, cushioning, and shock absorption, like reinforced heel counters, stability straps, and high-tech midsole and insole materials
* Removable insoles with some arch support
* Firm and springy cushioning (just not as wiggly as gelatin)
* Extra cushioning, especially in the heel and ball of the foot
* Flexibility that matches the natural bend of the foot
* Sturdy uppers, made of nylon mesh
* D-ring lacing system that allows for variable lacing patterns, which means that the eyelets are situated at various distances from the center of the shoe

How to Add Volume to Hair Naturally

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Egg
  • Bowl
  • Fork or Whisk
  • Beer
  • Sauce Pan
  • Stove
  1. Look in your refrigerator and see what you have on hand. You can use beer, or eggs, to add volume to your hair. Choose which of the following methods you would like to try.

  2. Eggs
Beat the raw egg in a small bowl. If you have long hair, you will need two eggs. Rub the raw egg into your hair. Cover your hair with a towel or shower cap to prevent dripping. After leaving the egg on for 20 minutes, or longer, rinse the egg from your hair. Make sure the water is as cool as you can get it without being uncomfortable. Warm water will cook the egg. Shampoo again with your normal hair shampoo and dry as usual. You will be amazed at the extra body the egg gives your hair.

  3. Beer
Reduce the beer in a sauce pan over medium heat until it is approximately ¼ the amount. Allow it to cool. Mix it into 1 cup of regular shampoo. Shampoo as you normally would with the "beer" shampoo. Rinse well. This does not need to be refrigerated.

How to Add Body to Hair

Big, bouncy, beautiful hair is an accessory that every female, no matter what age desires. Unfortunately, some of us weren't born with the luscious locks that have natural body and volume. For those that were born with a baby fine or limp mane don't fret, there are plenty of products and tested techniques that will help your hair attain the body you want.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Styling Product
  • Round/Paddle Brush
  • Blow dryer
  • Large Curling Iron

How to Add Body to Hair

  1. Get a good haircut. If your hair is fine or flat, ask your stylist for a shorter haircut that is layered. This will add natural bounce to your hair instantly.

  2. Use body inducing shampoo and conditioning products. Because shampooing and conditioning are the first steps in the hair styling process, it is important that you use products that will facilitate your goal. Avoid products that claim to add moisture, they often leave a heavy residue on your hair, weighing it down. Instead, use a lightweight cleansing shampoo and conditioner that rids your hair of excess oil and build-up. There are also a variety of volumizing shampoos and conditioners on the market; try purchasing sample sizes to determine which ones work best for you.

  3. Apply the proper product(s) to your hair before styling. Try products that claim to texturize, thicken or add volume to your hair. It may take some time to figure out what product works best for you, but when you do find that perfect product, apply it to your roots before styling for optimal body.

  4. Utilize the proper styling tools. The thickness and texture of your hair will determine the tools you will need to attain body. Most people should begin by blow-drying their hair with a round or large paddle brush. First, section off your hair to focus on one area at a time. Using whatever brush you prefer, blow dry your hair while using your brush to pull it towards the ceiling. If you have naturally tamed hair, you can section it off with rollers and then blow dry. Once your hair is dry, determine if it needs additional styling. Big barreled curling irons are also a great way to smooth hair will adding body.

Reebok EasyTone Shoes

Reebok EasyTone Shoes are all the rage with balance pods that, as the advertisements claim, create instability which "encourages toning through increased muscle activation" in the glutes, hamstrings and calves. In theory, it makes sense that an unstable surface may activate your leg muscles in a different way, but does that lead to toned hips and thighs? There are no objective scientific studies to prove their claims and science already tells us that toned legs come from regular cardio and strength training. EasyTones may make being on your feet more comfortable, but they won't take the place of regular workouts.

The Claims

Easytones are designed with balance pods under the shoes. The idea is that these pods create a slight instability that forces your leg muscles to work harder, thus encouraging more toning. Reebok claims that these shoes will improve muscle tone in the glutes by 28% and the hamstrings and calves by 11%. The fitness models in their advertisements certainly make you think you'll end up with a butt so fabulous, you'll want it to hang out the bottom of your very short shorts. However, I was unable to find the actual study these numbers are based on, nor could I find any objective scientific studies on these shoes. As of now, there's no proof these claims are true.
These shoes are more for walking and won't offer the support or stability you need for high impact exercises such as running or for activities with a lot of lateral movement like tennis or basketball. They do offer different types of EasyTones, including a running version and casual flip flops.

Reported Issues

Many of my readers here have commented on their experience with EasyTones and most reports are positive. Many readers say the shoes are comfortable, especially for people on their feet all day. I found that they can be comfortable for walking, but that's probably the only activity I would personally use them for. However, these shoes aren't for everyone and some users had issues such as:
Numbness in the feet or toes - Some users reported numbness, especially in their toes. That may be because the shoe is cutting off the circulation. Some readers may find relief by wearing thinner socks, lacing the shoes in a different way or exchanging them for a different size.
Pain, soreness or injury - Some readers reported sore legs and calves after wearing the them and some reported lower back pain. Some even reported injuries that had to be treated by a doctor/physical therapist. It's hard to know what caused these problems, but they may be related to preexisting injuries, individual foot/arch differences, wearing them for long periods of time or for activities that require a different kind of support (running, tennis, etc.). To avoid injury, talk to your doctor before you buy the shoes if you already have an injury or pain in your joints or feet. You should also practice wearing them for short periods of time to see how your body responds.
Deflated pods - Some users also reported deflated pods, which can happen with any shoe with air-filled pockets. Check with your retailer about their return/replacement policy before you buy the shoes.

The Bottom Line

It's certainly possible these shoes will activate your legs more (and it certainly feels that way), but that doesn't mean you'll have more toned glutes and thighs because of it.
Your experience with this shoe will most likely depend on why you're buying it. If you're looking for drastic changes in your body or you want to look like some of the women wearing booty shorts in the EasyTone advertisements, no shoe, no matter how fabulous, can do that for you.
What we do know is that a pair of shoes isn't enough to change the shape of your hips, glutes and thighs unless, perhaps, you strap them to your thighs with a couple of weight for some squats and lunges. If you want to tone your body, you need to build muscle with strength training and lose body fat with cardio and a healthy diet. It's possible that you'll walk more with the EasyTones and that may contribute to burning more calories which is always a good thing. However, expecting more than that may leave you disappointed. If you're buying these shoes because you want a comfortable shoe that offers a different kind of support, you may be happy with the EasyTones.

Wacky styles in fashion now!

Thanks to superstars like Lady GaGa and Rihanna, bright & loud colours in makeup and wacky “out of place” accessories have made a firm place in today’s fashion trends. To some people, this just might sound insane, but we can try out these things ourselves too! We just have to be careful about how we carry it out. So this one is for you all out there who want to try out something different and eccentric.
Let’s start with the classic red nail polish. Certain things never go out of style and red nail polish is one of them. It usually looks good with gorgeous gowns or sarees, but we want to break the rules! Keep it monochrome or spill in some more colours like purple or maybe even yellow. Green, electric blue, silver are great colours for nails too. Try it out anytime but apply nail polish in two coats and always use quality products. If you are more into nail art, accessories your nails with pretty, shiny stones and stickers.
Who doesn’t like a shimmering and prominent pair of high heels? They are ever so sexy, conspicuous and best way to complete a look. In case of heels, there are many options. Tie-ups, stilettos, plain pencils heels etc are available in many colours and designs but my advice would be to wear shoes of one solid colour that compliments the colour of your clothing. Obviously you want it to be “stand out” but you don’t want to look like a clown either! Red stilettos are the best in my eyes, but there is a whole array of colours you can choose from. They look great with jeans, salwar and sarees too.
If you don’t want to go through all that judging and choosing of colours, just throw all your girl stuff, books and other necessaries in a spacious, colourful bag and you are set to catch some eyes! Like our teen superstar Venessa hudgens. Try balloon bags in blue, green or any colour, shape & design you like. These are really helpful and stylish at the same time so it’s best for busy women who have a lot to do outside and don’t have enough time to think about looking hip.

Rule One For wackiness:

never try out all these things at once. Keep the other accessories low when you are concentrating on flaunting one in particular.

Rule two For wackiness:

always make sure you are comfortable in what you are wearing. Thats the magic rule of stylish.

Rule three for wackiness

try to be original. Do not copy your favourite star directly. Remember that this is not hollywood.

So go ahead and try these out. Be a Rockstar...

Applying Eyeshadow: Tips and tricks

Eye shadow is perhaps the most beloved cosmetic of creative makeup artists. Since eyes is the most important focal point of the face, the eye makeup techniques and choice of colors for eyeshadow should suit the shape and color of your eyes. The most important trick to keep in mind is that the light colors highlight the spots while dark colors tame them down. The first step in applying the eyeshadow is to apply a neutral concealer that matches your skin tone on the eyelid and then sweep the lightest shade over the entire area from the lash line to the brow line to create the smudge resistant base. Apply the medium shade on the lower lid and blend it into your base shade. A third color can also be added along the lash line and outer corner of the eyes as an accent to create the depth in eyes. The other tips that you can use are:
  • 1. Blondes with blue eyes should opt for browns and taupes while those with green eyes can go for soft mauves and lilacs.
  • 2. Blue eyeshadow should only be worn only if you either have fair skin, black or platinum hair and brown or gray eyes or very dark skin.
  • 3. Don't match your shadow with your eyes or your clothes so that attention remains with your eyes and not your makeup!
  • 4. Emphasizing the inner corner of the eyes to make them look closer to each other. This can be done by applying a neutral base color over the whole eye and then dust a medium color on the inner half of the eyelid and blend it outward. You can then use eyeliner to line the lid from the inner corner of the eye to the middle and blend it outward.
  • 5. For day makeup, base color and mascara are the only things you need to wear for eyes.
  • 6. High quality powder eyeshadows can be used wet for heavier application by dampening your applicator a little.
  • 7. Lighter shadows help the bigger while darker shades make them look smaller. For bigger eyes, sweep a light shade over lid and darker shade on the outer corner of the lid and the crease. Outline the eyes using the eyeliner on the outer side of upper and lower lids while tapering a bit on the outside the eye to elongate it. Dab a white or cream shadow in the middle of the brow bone as a last step.
  • 8. Neutral shades like browns and beiges look natural while brighter shades like blue and green look dramatic and artificial.
  • 9. On mature skin and puffy eyelids, avoid using iridescent, frosted, light colors and white eyeshadows and opt for soft matte colors instead.
  • 10. Only use cream eyeshadows that do not cause creasing upon application and should be coordinated with powder shadows that are to be used on top of them. They should be applied using fingertips.
  • 11. Sweep a light or medium-tone shade on the lid and slightly darker shade above the eye crease to downplay the brow bone. Eyeliner should be thick in the middle of the eye and tapering at both ends. Add light highlighter to brow bone.
  • 12. To add definition to your eyelids, apply a medium-toned shade across the lid and brow bone and dust the under brow area with a light highlighter shade. Use a very fine pencil liner of natural color to line the upper and lower lash lines.
  • 13. To glamorize eyes for night outs, add shimmer to highlight your eyes.
  • 14. To lift up tired eyes extend the color from the outer corner of the lid upwards to give them a feline shape. A light highlighter on the brow bone without the eyeliner brightens up the eyes. Concentrate mascara on the inner corner of the eye.
  • 15. To make them look wider apart, keep the inside corners of the eyes lighter than the outer edges. Apply concealer one shade lighter than your skin at the inner corner of the lids and the sides of your nose and blend it well. Use a matte medium to dark eyeshadow and stroke it outward and slightly upward from middle of the lid to its outer half. Use the eyeliner a bit in from the inner corner of the eye and make the line tapering up and out a bit past the outer corner of the eyes.

Eyebrow Waxing

One of the easiest ways to get rid of the extra hair around your brow line, waxing is definitely note for those with very sensitive skin. It is more expensive than plucking your eyebrows but lasts longer too. It should best be done under professional supervision. Here are some tips to do eyebrow waxing:
* Before waxing the brows, it is important to prepare them beforehand using a baby toothbrush to define their natural shape.
* Apply astringent on the brow area to make it numb for sometime.
* Calculate the length of the eyebrow you want by holding a ruler parallel to your nose, leveling it with the inner corner of the eye to see where you the brow should begin and mark the point with a dot using the brow pencil.
* For people with close-set eyes, gap between the brows should be left wider while those whose eyes are far apart; the gap should be less for a balancing illusion.
* To calculate the curve and mark the highest point of the brow arch, hold the ruler from the edge of the nostril past the outer edge of the iris up to the eyebrow and mark it with a dot too.
* Link the dots in a gentle smooth arch that slightly tapers at the outer ends.
* You will need a professional waxing kit that comes with a jar of hot wax which, a small spatula and muslin removal strips.
* Warm the wax to an optimum temperature by keeping the jar in boiling water and then use the spatula to apply a thin layer of wax on the stray hairs under the eyebrow in the direction of the hair and remove it using the strips in the opposite direction of the hair growth as directed on the kit before the wax dries.
* Never wax above the eyebrows.
* For thick growth, it is better and less painful to wax off a little hair at the time.
* Pluck any stray hair using a set of good tweezers and apply a soothing balm on the area.
* Be careful enough to avoid direct sun light, acid based facial treatments, and liquid makeup for some hours at least.
* Emphasize your brows using an eyebrow pencil or tinted brow shadow.

Party Makeup

Everybody in this world wants to look beautiful. This desire becomes more prominent especially if there is some special occasion or party. Researches say that a nice make up boosts up the confidence of a person in the social arena. So, not only on physical level, the art of make up has it charm on psychological level also. Apart from this, who does not love being the center of attention in a party? In case you are scheduled to attend some party recently, go through this article to discover some handy tips on part makeup.

How is Party Makeup different from Regular Makeup?

Party Makeup is very different from the makeup we apply on a regular basis. As most of the parties are scheduled on evening or night time, the party make up is obviously more glittery and shining than the regular make up. It is also comparatively darker and dazzling than the regular makeup. Apart from the clean, clear and attractive look, the party makeup aspires to provide a poised and jaw drop gorgeous look.

Before you choose a Party Makeup

It is very important for you to keep certain points in mind before you go for a party make up.
Go for a makeup that suits the mood of the party.
Choose the makeup complementing your skin tone.
Try to look gorgeous without experimenting much with your comfort level.
Go with a makeup that suits your persona.
If you are planning to do something new, go for a trial first to avoid any haphazard at the last moment.
Try doing something different from what is in extreme fashion to avoid being a commoner.
Feel confident of whatever you get done with yourself and carry it well.

Tips for Party Makeup

Go for proper cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturizing before anything else.
Apply ice all over your face.
Now thoroughly apply concealer in order to hide the scars and imperfections on your face.
You should then apply light base and foundation on your face and neck to make your skin smooth and even. This also helps to avoid sweating which can spoil your makeup.
You should now apply a highlighted oil-free moisturizer mixed with shining products such as shimmer dust to provide extra shine to your face. Remember to set loose powder by even brushing on the face and neck.
You can experiment with eye makeup according to party wear you are planning to wear. However, Smokey eyes are always a good option for a sexy and sensual look in parties.
Choose your lipstick in accordance with your dress. However go for darker shades if it is a night party.
Golden, bronze and silver liners add to your freshness and glamour. So prefer using them.
In case the party is a little formal or a day time party, go for a little lighter make up and less shimmering dresses.

The Coolest Hair Cuts: Layers and Bangs

All-one-length tresses are totally over. To look up-to-the-minute sexy, you've gotta snip some bouncy layers or hip bangs into your locks. We help you choose the look that's right for you.
Everyone's doing it. From screen stars to pop singers, all the trendsetting celebs are updating their tresses by getting piecey layers or eye-skimming bangs sliced into their locks. And there's a good reason: "Adding any kind of face-framing pieces to the style you have makes it much more flattering to your features and a whole lot sexier," says Oscar Blandi, the NYC stylist and salon owner who created the looks on these pages. And what's great about both these mane effects is that they don't require losing lots of length or making a dramatic change.

To Layer Your Locks

All-one-length strands may have looked good on Marcia Brady, but today's hottest stars are all about alluring, swinging hair that has tons of body. And the good news is, you don't have to be as tress-blessed as Courteney Cox Arquette to work this style. "Anyone can wear layers and incorporating some into your existing cut is the easiest way to give it a sexy, more modern look," says Blandi. But not all layers are created equal. "You have to match them to your natural hair texture," he says. Here, how to know which kind is right for your mane type.

If you have a curly coif, go for long, graduated layers all over your head to give your spirals definition so they are less frizz-prone.

If your strands are superfine, make some of your layers around ear-length to get volume at the roots.

If your mane is straight or kind of wavy and you want to make it look more shapely, add layers in the underneath section of your hair for a shaggy, bedhead look.

If your locks are ultrathick and you need to thin them out, ask your stylist to hold the scissors vertically while cutting the layers to take away the bulk.

Styling Secrets

Heed these pro tricks to get the layered-locks effect shown above. First, coat damp strands with a smoothing serum, then blow-dry your roots. Once they're dry, attach a slanted nozzle to the dryer and, starting at the back of your head, wrap two-inch sections of hair around a round brush, one at a time. To get the most volume, brush these sections of hair upward as you dry, says Blandi. When you get to the front section of your hair, dry it inward, toward your face. Next, mix more shine serum with a dab of pomade in your palm, then run it from your ears down to accentuate your layers. Flip your head over, blast with cool air, flip upright, and your mane will have a tousled effect, says Blandi.

To Bring on the Bangs

If you haven't worn fringe since you had training wheels on your bike, you'll be happy to hear that they've come a long way. The newest bangs range from long and blunt to side-swept and wispy, which means every girl can find a style that's perfect for her. "Bangs will look good on just about anyone. The key is determining the type that best complements your face shape," says Blandi. Here, his guide for figuring out which fringe is ideal for you:
If your face is round, the most flattering effect is long, feathery bangs that curve into your face to minimize your full cheeks and add contour to your features. If your face is long, go for blunt brow-level bangs that cover your forehead and create the illusion of a more oval-shaped face. Also, ask your stylist to add longer layers at the sides.
If your face is square, check out long, side-swept bangs that taper into layers near your jaw. This style will help soften the angles of your face. Snip tip: Make sure your stylist sees your locks when they're dry first, since hair is longer when it's wet. You don't want the stylist to screw up and snip off too much.

Styling Secrets

When blow-drying your bangs, the trick is to tackle them when they're sopping wet. To get perfect results, first apply a small drop of a light shine serum to the area. Then clamp a two-inch section of bangs between two fingers and blow-dry the roots only; alternate aiming the dryer above and below the roots so they don't get too flat or too puffy. When all the roots are almost dry but the ends are still damp, use a small, flat brush to curve the ends under while you blow-dry. If you want your bangs stick straight, smooth them out by running a small flatiron from midlength down. Finish with a mist of hair spray.
