EAT RIGHT, BE BRIGHT!

Eating healthy is not about depriving yourself of the foods you love

If you want Lara’s sexy body or Karishma’s flawless complexion you’ve got to learn how to eat smart! Your food choices can reduce your risk of illnesses and boost your energy, so make sure you include the right foods in your diet. Check out the eight healthy goodies that will make all the difference as far as your health goes. Even Bollywood’s stars swear by these!

Almonds and Walnuts
Nuts are great for you! They are high in essential fatty acids so they protect against heart disease and are a good source of protein as well. They are also ideal for snacking on.

Karishma Kapoor, who has never looked this good, says, “Nuts have always been a part of my daily life as they are a gift from nature and are good for health. What is exciting is that nuts are not just healthy snacks but that they can be enjoyed in many different ways in different cuisines.”

Green Veggies
What is the one thing that you should definitely include in your daily diet? Green vegetables, of course. All your veggies like broccoli, spinach and cabbage are jam-packed with nutrients like vitamins A, C, E, K and even magnesium, so they reduce the risk of heart diseases and aid digestion! And with so many options available there is no way you can get bored even if you are a vegetarian.

Flax Seeds
Your new wonder food! They are a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids (these are the good ones) and are also very rich in fibre. Studies show that flax seeds fight everything from heart diseases and diabetes to breast cancer. Every star worth his or her salt adds this to their diet.

Berries
Not only do they look delicious, they are also a wonderful source of vitamin C that makes your skin glow, prevents cancer and keeps you in top shape! Svelte and fit Lara Dutta should know. She says, “I stick to eating raw food in the morning, say a bowl of papaya and maybe an apple or strawberries.” This gives her the energy to face the rest of the day.

Lean Meats
Ditch those caffeinated drinks and stop sipping on that coffee, because lean meat is here! They are a great source of energy because they carry oxygen into your blood stream. That’s not all, they are packed with important nutrients like vitamin B which helps the body’s metabolism too. So what are you waiting for? Actor Imran Khan loves his lean meats and says, “A must-have for lunch is chicken; I need the proteins in it because I tend to lose weight very quickly.”

Oats
These have a higher concentration of well-balanced protein than any other cereals. They lower blood cholesterol, reduce blood pressure, facilitate digestion, increase your energy throughout the day and control your weight. Guess that’s the reason Asin eats oats for breakfast! She states, “I start my day with a cup or bar of oats or a bowl of muesli and some fruit.”

Eggs
Don’t waste your time on beauty products and sun bathing. Just eat an egg! Eggs promote healthy hair and nails and are also good for your eyes and heart. They contain high quantities of protein and all essential amino acids and are also one of the only foods that contain naturally occurring vitamin D! Wow!

Genelia thinks this is pretty wow too as she starts her day with ‘two egg whites and a slice of bread’.

Salmon
Full of Omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is delicious and offers heart health as well as other physical benefits. It is high in protein and the ‘good’ fats and is an excellent source of vitamin B and magnesium as well. Gorgeous Freida Pinto says, “My dinner is baked salmon and vegetables.” That explains that always- glowing complexion.
